2017 Craven Arts Council - Mum's the Word
Lindsay Kosma is a painter and mixed media artist in Charlotte, NC. Through her various mediums she creates environments that juxtapose the relationship between the natural and man-made world. Loose strokes and swashes of vibrant color are used to infuse emotion in to every piece. Stylistically, the work is abstract and impressionistic with hints of surrealism.
On the surface, her work may appear bright and straightforward and can stand alone as such. Though, there are always layers of meaning and metaphor that combine to form the aesthetic economy of each piece. Despite suggested meaning, Kosma leaves much room for interpretation. Usual subjects include people, specifically faces, architecture, flora, fauna, and other living and non-living organisms that are broken apart and reconstructed to incite substance.
